Beavers Bend is one of the most magical and intriguing locations in the state of Oklahoma. Located in the deep southeastern region of the state, the hilly terrain where the Red River passes south of the Ouachita Mountains, Beavers Bend occupies a sharp turn in the Mountain Fork River that has been known to locals as a pleasant and fertile area for over a millennium.
The first people to settle in Beavers Bend were a village of Choctaw Indians that had relocated to Oklahoma in order to escape the increasing depredations and hostilities of European settlers in their ancestral lands of the Atlantic South. As some of the first agrarian settlers of this part of Oklahoma, the Choctaw had first pick of the best land. They chose Beavers Bend, and they chose wisely. The land has been populated by happy and productive people ever since. The United States government recognized the unique beauty and productiveness of the Beavers Bend bio-region in 1937 and declared this area to be a national park. Its natural treasures will be preserved for all time so that future generations may enjoy its running waters, its growing trees, its beautiful hills, and its burgeoning wildlife. Migrating birds also are well aware of Beavers Bend State Park, and in the proper seasons of the year it is possible to see an enormous variety of flying species. Trout fishing is also very popular in Broken Bow Lake.
The unique landscape of Beavers Bend State Park is worth mentioning. The Ouachita Mountains are the oldest mountains in the world, and Beavers Bend occupies a corner of that ancient and eroded range where various geological events over the aeons have presented a variety of amazing sights. Geologists have done enormous amounts of landmark work in Beavers Bend. It is safe to say that much of what we know about the geological history of North America and the entire world was learned right here in Beavers Bend.
With all this natural splendor, it is no surprise that so many people choose to visit Beavers Bend and even to hold special events there. Weddings and parties are common in the gorgeous environs of this part, and there are even Beavers Bend State Park Cabins for rent to accommodate those you wish to stay for awhile. These cabins are also beloved by fishers and bird watchers in their proper season. All are welcome to come and enjoy the best that Oklahoma has to offer.
